Abstract
NiTi shape memory alloy cladded on a copper foil was fabricated by underwater explosive welding. The welding process was simulated using LS-DYNA.The numerical simulation gave the velocity of the flyer plate, and discussed based on the minimum velocity for jetting.Microstructure and fracture mechanism of the cladded metals were evaluated. The bond interface of the cladded metals shows a wavy morphology. The fracture mechanism of the composite showed predominantly quasi-cleavage and cleavage modes.Underwater explosive welding can solve the problem that materials with thin thickness and low formability difficult to bond by traditional explosive welding.
