A STUDY OF J-INTEGRAL FOR FRACTURE CRITERION ON THE ADAPTABILITY TO CASES IN WHICH RESIDUAL STRESSES EXIST

This paper states the investigations conducted by applying the theory of J-integral to the cases in which residual stresses exist.An effective value of J is adopted as an index symbolizing the fracture criterion.It appears as J_c=J_effective Experimental results indicated that the values of fracture load derived theoretically from the above relation were in agreement with those obtained in actual tests for samples in which residual stresses or preloads exist.
