Microstructure and properties of in-situ synthesized TiC-TiB reinforced Fe based composite coating by argon arc cladding

  • Fe-based composite coating was prepared on the 16Mn steel surface by means of argon arc cladding technique with the pre-alloyed powder of C, Ti, B and Fe. The microstructure was examined by using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope. The microhardness of the composite coating was measured using the microhardness meter and the wear resistance was analyzed using the wear testing machine in the condition of dry sliding wear at room temperature. The result showed that the interface between the coating and substrate had excellent bonding being free of pores and cracks. The composite coating consisted of TiB,TiC,Fe2Ti and α-Fe particles. The microhardness of the coating was about 1000 MPa. Wear test results showed that the the composite coating has excellent wear resistance under the dry sliding wear conditions..
