Effect of detonation velocity on interface and properties of Al/Ti composite tube under explosive welding

  • To obtain low detonation velocity explosive, commercial attenuant was blended into the emulsion explosive. The detonation velocity of compound explosive, which was measured in the condition of natural pile-up state, declined from2 800 m/s to 1 400 m/s. By analyzing mechanical properties and microstructure of Al/Ti composite tubes made by explosive welding with these compound explosives, the appropriate detonation velocity of 1 950 m/s-2 150 m/s for explosive welding of composite tube was obtained, and the combination quality of composite tubes met the requirements for subsequent processing. It was found that the detonation velocity had great influence on the combined interface waveform of composite tube. The interfacial wave amplitude was small in the front-part, then increased along the detonation direction, but became small again in the end-part. The major reason was that the explosive welding condition and distribution of explosive product for composite tube were different from those for composite sheet.
