Effect ofthe technology characteristics of self-piercing riveting

  • The paper analyses the technology characteristics of Self-piercing Riveting with Clinching, and compares the strength and shear strength of two different connection mode of joint. Observe the structure of material at self-lock joint using the anodized coating joint metallographic specimen. The experimental results demonstrate that the strength and shear strength of SPR is higher than Clinch. The structure of joint material flow due to mechanical connection, make the grain from equiaxed to fibrous, according to the properties of the grain size distribution, riveting joint is divided into parent metal deformation zone, upper lock area, lower lock area, upper transition zone, lower transition zone, plastic area. The joint of SPR due to formation of fibrous tissue, make the performance of metal to produce anisotropy, the strength along with the fiber direction will be higher than the vertical direction.
