Microstructure of stainless steel-carbon steel composite plates produced by explosive welding

  • Based on EDS linear scanning,SEM analysis and mechanical tests,the mechanical properties and microstructure of as-welded and as-annealed stainless steel-carbon steel composite plates produced by explosive welding have been investigated The wavy interface formed by the explosive welding and the transition layer have been measured.The results show that the "large" wavy interface occurs between stainless steel and carbon steel.But the mechanical properties of composite plate have not been significantly reduced by this "large" wavy interface.The interface has been micro-melted in the process of explosive welding and diffusion layer of only about 5 μm thickness has been formed.
