TiCp reinforced titanium composite layer on Ti6A14v alloy

  • Metal-ceramic composites show many advantages for various industrial applications. It is well known that Ti-based composite possesses quite attractive aspects in physical and chemical properties. In this paper 10wt% of mixed powders of W2C or Cr3C2 and Ti are used respectively, and an in-situ forming TiC/Ti metallic composite layer on Ti6Al4V is fabricated by laser induced reaction. The results show that the microstructure of the composite layer is strongly related with the composition of original powders and also the laser processing parameters.Under certain processing parameters, the TiC particles are fine and uniformly disperse in the composite layer. As different pro-placed metal-ceramic powders, composite bases are made of single-plase α-Ti or single-phase β-Ti respectively.
