Vacuum hot roll bonding of TC4 titanium alloy and 0Cr18Ni10Ti stainless steel

  • Vacuum hot roll bonding was carried out between Ti-6Al-4V alloy and 0Cr18Ni10Ti stainless steel using nickel interlayer successfully.The microstructure of interface was characterized by scanning electron microscopes, EDAX and XRD, and the composition of intermetallic compounds of interface was tested, and the effect regularity of bonding temperature on tensile strength of joints was also analyzed.The test result showed that, the thickness of intermetallics increased with the rising in bonding temperature, and the tensile strength decreased.The maximum tensile strength of 452 MPa was obtained when bonding temperature was 760℃, reduction ratio was 20% and rolling speed was 38 mm s.The fracture of tensile sample was brittle fracture, and a number of intermetallics Ni-Ti have been indentified by X-ray diffraction at the fracture of tensile sample.
