Abstract
The transformation starting temperature of the weld metal with low transformation temperature is about 190℃.Welding residual distortion of welded joints could be decreased by means of the volume expansion of solid-state phase change.A low transformation temperature electrode (LTFE) and conventional E5015 were used in the angle distortion test of both butt joints and T-joints as well as the build-up welding test on plate. The effects of solid-state phase change on welding distortion were discussed. The test results of the angle distortion test of both butt joint sand T-joints show that specimen welded with the LTFE had smaller distortion than those welded with the E5015;the former values were respectively 69.1% and 64.3% compared with later ones. The test results of build-up welding on plate show that the specimen welded with LTFE had negative bending distortion, under this test condition its negative deflection is -1.9 mm,on contrary the specimen welded with E5015 had 2.0 mm positive deflection in bending distortion. The test results provide a valuable method to decrease or to control welding residual distortion.
