Microstructure and properties of intermetallic composites fabricated by surdfacing

  • Composite welding rods were fabricated by milling and sintering mixtures of WC,NiAl,NiB and Ni powders.In milling,WC particles were broken,and NiAl,NiB and Ni powders reacted to form intermetallic compounds.WC/intermeatllic composite wear resistant coatings (5mm in thickness) were made using this kind of welding rods on the surfaces of 1Cr25Ni20Si2 steel.Partial WC particles dissolved to precipitate new carbide W2C,and the matrix Ni3Al transformed one new intermetallic compound Ni3(AlTi) C.The wear resistance of this composites was 3 times that of 45 steel.
