Effect of flux materials on surface tension of drops of electrodes

  • The surface tension, of drops of electrodes has been measured by the "continuous projected hanging drop method" and that of the slags has been measured by means of the high speed camera, synchronous oscillograph system. Based on the above tests and the measurement of temperature, grain size and the transfer modes of the drops, it has been investigated that the effect of the flux materials on the surface tension of the drops and on the technological feature of the electrodes. It has been pointed out that the surface tension of drops is a synthetic action of the surface tension of the slag and that between the metal and the slag, the ferdspar and fluorspar are active substances of drops, and the marble and exessive metalic powder arc nonactive substances of drops. The suitable formula range of the Ti-typc stainless steel electrode has been given in this paper.
