MICRO-PLASMA ARC PRECISION SURFACING ON NODULAR GRAPHITE CAST IRON

  • The purpose of this investigation is developing a new surfacing process in which extremely thin overlay can be obtained. In this surfacing process,a plasma arc is used as the heat source and a layer of WC powder is deposited on the surface of the metal. This paper analyses the results of the surfacing on nodular graphite cast iron (QT60-2).The chemical composition, the microsturcture and the properties(including hardness, resistance to tempering, wear resistance and corrosion resistance) of the deposited layer were examined by electron probe microanalysis,SEM and other traditional testing instruments. The results show that the surfacing layer on nodular graphite cast iron with very good properties can be obtained by this surfacing process.
