A STUDY OF THE MEASURING METHODS OF RESIDUAL WELDING STRESSES

The distribution of residual welding stresses measured by X-Ray is in general similar to that by the drilling method. However, the value of the former is lower than that of the latier, especially in the zone of weld metalo. This is due to the fact that the X-Ray method covers only the elastic strain while the drilling method covers both the elastie and the plastic strain. The plastic strain of drilling round the edge of hole plays a part.
