Abstract: In this paper the effect of various factors upon the output of the electromagnetic sensor (of the differential transformer) used for seam tracking has heen analysed on the basis of magnetic circuit theory.A formula for designing sensors of this type has been established.This formula is simple,and its physical meaning is sound and clear.By this formula a desirable sensor could be obtained.
