Research progress in brazing of ceramic matrix composites to metals

  • Ceramic matrix composites exhibit excellent properties including high strength and high-temperature resistance, with broad application prospects in the nuclear industry, automotive machinery, aerospace, and other fields. However, ceramic matrix composites often need to be joined with metals to realize their engineering applications, thus prompting extensive research on joining technologies between ceramic matrix composites and metallic materials. Among numerous joining technologies, brazing is regarded as the optimal method for achieving the joining of the two materials, owing to its simple process and high joint strength. In this paper, the current research status and challenges in the field of brazing between ceramic matrix composites and metals were summarized, and recent research achievements from the aspects of improving the surface wettability of ceramic matrix composites, regulating brittle interfacial reaction products, and mitigating residual stress were discussed. Finally, the relevant research results of the brazing technology for ceramic matrix composites and metals were summarized, with an outlook on its future development trends provided.
